Independent filmmaker

Sheron R. Dayoc is an independent filmmaker, editor, videographer and writer. After his video/film trainings in UP Film Institute and Ateneo De Zamboanga University through the Jesuit Communications he was hired by several NGOs, government institution, and other private line agencies.
As the pioneering filmmaker in Zamboanga City and in Region IX he has taken up the challenging task of introducing and promoting the craft of documentary filmmaking.

The focus of Ron's documentaries is on the untold stories of people from grassroots level. Experiencing the lives of marginalized people and different tribes in Mindanao from depressed areas gave him a much wider perspective in life and in the creative process. Thus, allowing a culturally sensitive treatment of their stories.

Ron's philosophy is the fusion of passion and expertise to create compelling and significant documentary films. It is his vision to re-invent itself, pushing the envelope of creativity by shaping each story into an exceptional final product through the collaborative efforts with a team of distinguished talents

Ron,

There are many subjects with such theme that can be explored here in Mindanao for full length documentary film. And most of the subjects here that will address the requirements of The Village H.E.L.P. are community participatory in nature (COPAR). An approach that initially identifies and considers the community's felt needs, recognizing their potentials and eventually ending with community empowerment through the community's self involvement or participation. This approach are widely used within the Mindanao Island and the Philippines, in agriculture and aquaculture , in education and ancestral domain claims, programs on poverty alleviation through basic services , and other socially relevant actions or programs that aims to break the cycle of poverty.

I hope the short enumeration of the possible subjects for the film will aid you to scout more prospects during the pre-production period.

Note: In terms of numbers, I am not basically aware as of the moment of the success rate of community participatory projects in Mindanao.

:)

Ey, i was thinking of collaborative work too together with Danny C. Sillada and Steven Patrick "tibo" Fernandez.

I am currently doing collaborative research with tibo on his arts survey in visayas and mindanao.

Let's think of a topic and we'll talk about it...

Good luck Ron on your entries to the Cinemalaya Film Festival! Its good to hear about a filmmaker from Zamboanga. The Yakan culture is truly unique. I used to handle a socio-economic project for the Yakans in Basilan involving Yakan cloth weaving. The project seeks to preserve the dying traditions of Yakan cloth weaving, the designs of which are passed on through generations by practice. There is no written design for their patterns on the cloth. Again good luck.
